I need a hero!
Starting thinking about yesteryear and began to wonder, who are the guitar gods of today?
A lot of 'em are still alive and doing great stuff, but where is the young Brian May? Steve Vai? Eddie Van Halen? out there working on their first or second album?

I know there are tons of great guys out there... I still get tingles all the time by some guys playing smaller rooms. But the "god" thing seems to have passed...

sorry, too much coffee. that, and i was just subjected to a 45 second loop of a not-so-impressive vai-esque lead while on hold w my utilities company (on speakerphone). no offense.

Yeah, there are no good women guitar players, like Kristin Hersh.scott anthony wrote: I know there are tons of great guys out there... I still get tingles all the time by some guys playing smaller rooms. But the "god" thing seems to have passed...

Re: I need a hero!
I was sort of taking the definition of "guys" literally. I guess you more meant it in the context of "guitar players" than "guys." Sorry.
Anyway, Kristin Hersh is a guitar god(dess).
You can get her new band (50 Foot Wave) mp3's at throwingmusic.com It's heavy metal/punk. I rather like it.
They have a free mp3 at Amazon, of their song Clara Bow.
(don't know how one little woman can scream so loud and make such big guitar sounds!)
Don't I sound like a little street teamer!

That dude from Meshuga is a fucking monster. In a good way.
Re: I need a hero!
They're here. They're people who can play really well but realize that being a guitar god is stupid and very uncool. They are artists who make a concerted effort to avoid becoming nightmares.scott anthony wrote:Starting thinking about yesteryear and began to wonder, who are the guitar gods of today?
Another thought is there are so many people who play well, it's like, well, what else you got?
And rock is mature. It's alive but not vital. Gods come from vital.
