How could that be a scam??? He says he is located in Los Angeles. He has to be for real.

Careful guys, your naivete' is showing...

When I worked at Secret Sound, the owner had had the SSL E-series buss modified by putting a set of Jensen transformers across it. Opened the console up alot. A desired effect when printing tape or any other medium. From the looks of this link, this guy was using these API amps as some sort of master buss section. When I was at Master Control I used to put a few of the Neve's we had across the buss of the SSL. Same principal. Slight coloration is desirable. I'd love to take an automated (in Pro Tools) mix and dump it through the API that Skip Saylor has at his house. That board sounds amazing and there ain't too many that sound that good.

As for bidding on these, these units are severely modded. It's not a scam, there's just less value to these being so drastically configured. It becomes a pretty 'unique' situation to buy into.

Jeff, while the information you supplied was useful I believe the 'scam' alert was raised for other reasons, namely the 0 feedback seller selling such a potentially big-ticket item (in name value alone, regardless of the item's actual worth) right off the bat. It's probably an exact rip of another, more legitimate, auction.

The output of the SSL at secret sound (Chas Sanfords place)had two little labs line amps on the output. I Initially used the John Hardy 990 discreet op amps in the line amp then I think later I put my own op amps in it. Just thought I would chime in on that because I did it! HA

Man, Jonathan, all those years I thought those were Jensens on that board!. Good to hear from you! Do you also remember listening to 'Lamb lies down on Broadway' at top volume at the last of Chas' infamous parties in Woodland Hills? Lol.
