I recently acquired an ancient Yamaha CA-1010 integrated amplifier. It sounds great, but there are a number dirty pots and switches that are causing static, noise, etc. I would like to take it in for a cleaning/repair.
Anyone here know of a good shop in the Chicago area (no suburbs)?
Anyone here have any idea how much something like this will cost me?
Thanks!
Know any competent stereo equipment repair shops in Chicago?

I've had good experiences with these guys:
Deltronics Inc.
2911 N. Halsted Street
Chicago, Illinois 60657
Phone 773-549-6635
Fax 773-549-6230
www.deltronicschicago.com
They can do an estimate for you before they do the work, but I think everybody charges to do a quote these days unless it's warranty work.

Re: Know any competent stereo equipment repair shops in Chic
I've had BAD experiences with these guys:
Deltronics Inc.
I was having a guitar preamp worked on. It took them forever, and wasn't fixed when I got it home. I had to take it back. Also, they scratched the front plate of my unit.
But unfortunately I don't know of any other electronics repair shops, although in a city like Chicago I'm sure there are many.

Wow, that sucks. I know it took a really long time when I brought my recorder there but they fixed it and didn't charge me anything or ask me to do a bunch of warranty paperwork. As for stuff taking long, I always thought the sign of a good place was that there was stuff piled everywhere in the shop and it takes a minimum of 6 weeks for them to get to anything. It means they are in demand. I'm only partially kidding.
There's this place in town that some people have told me about but I never tried called Specimen. They specialize in guitar amplifiers but might also work on something like yours (deadtide's). Once again I don't have any experience with them but I've heard their name a couple times lately.
