what i did recently was listen at the mix position while firing a sinewave oscillator through the system and taking notes on what frequencies the apparent volume increased..

then you can look at the specs of the absorbing material and treat accordingly..

repeat the test, move/add treatment till your as even as you can get across the entire frequency range..

or do I have to get or build something more extensive?
harley, the graph that ethan posted shows that yeah, the foam thingies work. but not nearly as well, and not as low down as minitraps on a corner. so if you've already got em, ok put em up. but if you're trying to decide what to buy, well, consider other stuff.

Harley,
I just re-read my post.... Ugh. Sorry to sound so dismal! I think I had to hop up and change a mic or something, and just hit "post message..." There was more to that post I thought.

Anyway,
No,
I didnt mean just do nothing and give up! Ouch!

I mean that after you do everything within your budget and time and space constraints, you will still need to really learn what your room is telling you.

I have heard stuff you have done, and it always sounds great! I am sure you will make that room work, man!

thanks Joel..I appreciate the kind words !!

I didn't think you were being dismal...I just thought you were saying that
it didn't matter in certain situations....of course learning your room and mix problems is essential.

Yeah Ive been studying the options and am going to try some of the diy traps...

I'm bummed that I have to take down my huge hendrix band of gypsys framed poster [yeah it's original] it's on the wall right behind the mixing station and is probably bouncing sound around.

Gonna probably do panels behind and above and tubes of burlap covered fibreglass in the corners.

I hate foam..i think it looks cheap and bad.....so wood frames for the traps

Also I'm building an isolation booth in the opposite corner. I think it's a must for apartment/studio life
