any good sites for mods out there. Seems like you can get some pretty nice stuff pretty cheap by just doing mods. anybody know of any good sites out there for this type of thing?

Re: mods
I'm one of the people to talk to about mods, but it looks like someone else already directed you to my site under your 3630 thread. Any questions about any particular piece of equipment?

Re: mods
my interest was definitely peaked by that 3630 mod you all offer... to broke this week, but you might soon be getting and order from me. Really this is about the only thing I've got right now that might benefit from a mod. but I'm always scouring ebay looking for stuff that can be picked up for nothing and modded into something useful. Really i ws intersted in sites that might speak to soldering technique, reading schematics, band other basic electronics stuff (i'm just getting into this stuff if you can't tell)
thanks,
thanks,

Re: mods
I've written a couple of articles that cover things like the basics of troubleshooting, how to purchase and use a multimeter (scroll down to the DIY section), and,
of course, that silly Paia Tube Mic Preamp mod article that I wrote a few
years ago for TapeOp...sheesh that thing is embarrassing .
There are so many inexpensive pieces of equipment that could benefit from modification (or, in the case of the 3630, a complete overhaul). I don't have enough time to cover them all really...

Re: mods
i read that paia mod article and was tempted by that too. I'm not sure what my first mod will be. What's the total cost on the paia mod usally come to after parts?

Re: mods
I did the RP503 on the Black Lion site. I bought two of them direct from Bellari (b-stock) for $250 and after the mods they sound pretty damn good! The new opamps made a definite and real improvement.

Oh, I don't remember...I think it's around $35 or so...What's the total cost on the paia mod usally come to after parts?
the parts list is a bit dated--now you can get everything you need
through Mouser...
Also, it's best just to remove the caps on the output and jumper them with a discarded resistor lead. The DC offset from the 2604 is so low that you really don't need caps on the output.
Surprisingly, it's a pretty good sounding unit once it's been modified. I've impressed many a seasoned engineer with that thing.
Re: mods
Hm... might have to give one of those a try. I didn't realize you were the author of that article. Pretty cool!
