Xiu Xiu

Post by theistheman » Sat Aug 07, 2004 4:32 pm

Man, it would be pretty awesome if Tape Op did a feature on Xiu Xiu. I think that they (or he?) embody everything that Tape Op's all about.

Speaking of, does anybody have any idea what reverb box (or VST plug) Jamie uses on his vocals? It sounds pretty crappy, but in a very good way.

I'm working with them tonight. I'll try to remember to ask...

sweet.

If you could ask him what he sequenced "Crank Heart" in, that would be cool as well.

That song's totally bomb.

Word on the reverb is: whatever room he's in or whatever plug-ins are around.

Didn't see your second post until now, so I don't have info on the sequencer. I would expect it is the same device they use live (a Yamaha something-or-other, I think).

They were really nice people, and I really enjoyed the music. Unfortunately, we BOTH had all sorts of technical problems. It was almost comedic.

Great show, nonetheless. Check them out when they hit your town.

Man I love you for posting this. I just heard Xiu Xiu for the first time last week and didn't know how it was spelled so I was having a hard time finding any info on it. I'm not even sure of the name of the song I heard but it rocked and now I can check it out.
If it sounds good, it is good.

I felt gypped, I've heard a lot of good things about Xiu Xiu, and my old band Esau was supposed to play with them once, at the Replay in Lawrence, Ks, but all of their stuff got ripped off a day or two before and they cancelled, understandably. Wow, that was a lotta commas. At any rate, I was disappointed that I didn't get to see them, but (the color blue) played and that was pretty cool. Blah.
I like pie.

Yeah, that was like a couple years ago. They got all of their gear stolen in Montana, and Jamie, their main dude, ended up doing a couple of tours solo with just a guitar.

I would say that that shows how great his music is, having such dense, very electronic tunes, and being able to strip them down to just guitar and voice.

It's pronounced "shoo shoo", by the way.
