A question about Bellari RP583

Post by Stephen » Sun Aug 08, 2004 11:17 am

Heya:
I gots me a question or three: I have seen some good info on the Bellari RP583. First q: Hows the limiting on this doo-dad?
Second q: Overall comments... Is it good or does it blow?
Third q: If you believe that it blows, can you recommend something in a similar price range that doesn't? (Note: I am already scoping RNCs in a Funk Logic housing courtesy of Mercenary...)
Pax, Steve

I have two. They were passable. I replaced the tubes in them and that made them less noisy and seem to open them up a bit more. Then I replaced the op-amps per the suggestions on the Black Lion Audio site and now they sound really quite good! The compressor is actually usable now. Before it was slow and very audible.

I you can get them cheap and do a couple upgrades, they're worth it.

Otay, how would you say they compare to RNCs?

I have a Bellari 583 and did the opamp swaps and tube swaps. Easy mods, and really does make the unit pretty useful. I like it cause it doesnt sound like anything else I have. The closest other comp in terms of style would be the DBX 160vu. ( i also dont have an RNP, so cant compare). The Bellari with the mods is sharp and driving. It can pump very hard and pretty fast.
What its not: quiet, transparent, dull
What it is: bright, hard, edgy.

I like it to liven up an acoustic or electric guitar track. Also adds a cool crack to snare.
