Most unque recording environments in the world

Post by Fieryjack » Mon Aug 09, 2004 9:31 am

This is the quintessential anti-Tape Op question (no offense intended). What are the most unique and exquisite recording environments in the world? I'll start:

The Astoria (Pink Floyd's studioboat on the Thames)
Real World

The old meat locker in my studio - it's pricipally a "live" room.
Meat hooks and everything.

Cowtrax, sounds pretty unique. Can anyone record there or do they have to know somebody?

We're a commercial studio in western MA.
By appointment, of course, but like any ol' studio, just call! :)

(sorry - this wasn't meant to be self-promotional, just to point out a wild, weird room.)

Everything Lomax did. R2R recorder in cotton fields, on front porches, at prison work sites, prison cells, etc. This guy was AMAZING. What a body of work. It just goes to show, it's not how well it was recorded, but the amount of talent in front of the mic that makes all the difference in the world.

The only true great mic on this planet is the Shure SM-57. It is the most consistant in not totally sucking of anything ever built. All other mics are "application dependant".

Peter Gabriel's Real World is a pretty cool place to work. Great vibe.

My fave studio is about an hour outside of Seattle called Paradise sound. Beatutiful SSL, kick ass mic locker, 5 iso booths with 15 foot ceilings and below is the view from the back of the studio.
