Anybody ever hear of a Shure SM 51 condenser mic? I just picked one of these up on Ebay for low $$$. Could be cool....could be a dog. Just wonderin'.

Hmm...that's not the mic I bought. This is the mic...you can check it out on Ebay. It looks like an old lapel mic.

Thanks Thunderboy....that looks like the mic alright. I wonder why the seller thought it was a condencer mic? I dunno...hopefully it will sound "cool".

A bunch of lavalier mics are condensers these days, the guy just probably figured this one was, too. Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone used lavaliers in a studio with any success? As I'm thinking about it, I've only seen them used in TV or on stage...

I used a Sanken Lav on an upright bass last week. I cliped it under the bridge & it sounded pretty cool. Good definition of attack and pretty decent over-all sound. Not tacky like a piezo pickup. Mixed that in with a KM84 and vavoom....
