Was, Help me consctruct a home studio. SE PDX, Now with Pics

Post by touched1 » Fri Aug 13, 2004 4:20 pm

Well, not big $$.

Just relocated to SE Portland and my landlord has offered to pay for materials to turn the garage into a useable room.

It's a small one car garage. Need someone with some construction experience that can plan it all out, and I can act as a semi-skilled laborer/assistant, and can enlist more help if necessary. No floating floors or anything like that. Just want it to be a decent work space with above average sound reinforcement.

Reply here and we can sort out the details by phone or email.

Thanks,

Jason

Oregon, or Maine?
No offense, but people (the folks who route bags for Delta airlines, for example) forget there's more than one Portland in the world, and it gets this Maine boy's blood boiling. Of course, SE Portland Maine is the Atlantic ocean, so I guess I answered my own question.

Good luck with the studio, though.

Easy there lobsterman. get your blood boiling too hot and we'll serve you up with a salad and fries and call it a day. Sorry. This was sort of a pointed post, Portland, OR is divided up NE, NW, SE, SW, (at least that's what I'm told, I've been here all of 2 weeks) so I figured only Oregonians would respond.

So you interested or what? Maybe we can get you a cheap flight. Of course Delta will send your bags back to your home town. Heh.

Thanks for the response anyway.

Great link, thanks.

TOns of good stuff. But I thought the tape op forum might be a good place to find recommendations for local people for a project like this.

Anyone?

It might be a cool idea to document the process, video, or photo/writeup to post online, maybe here, as a learning tool..or just an interesting article..

Documenting the process is a good idea. I did just buy this nice new digital camera.... Just will need a place to put it on the web. Maybe it's time for a .Mac account.

Fist I need people to help though.

Since Larry's place (Jackpot) is like probably less than a mile from you, you may want to check with him. Also the Swords (band in pdx) built their studio last year. Adam Selzer of Type Foundary also probably has some info...

All very nice people, all have web/email for contact:

g'luck...

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yeah, truth be told, Jackpot is just about a mile from me, and Tape #37 did give my record a nice review http://www.saucerx.com/teledubgnosis/ (It would be shameless self promotion if you could actually buy the record, but it's out of print. If anyone wants to hear it let me know.)

But I figure lots of people blow into town thinking they can just look Larry up and ask him advice. I figure I'd try to go through the proper channels before directly pressing people I don't know for information.

I'll follow the links and introduce myself.

Thanks again.

Pete:
Do you have any pics, you could post/send so I can see what you're up to?
I may take you up on on checking out your studio.

Erland:
Do you have some webspace you'd be willing to provide? I would be nice to post before/during/after pics....

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I do have pics of the process. I am missing a few here and there, but I have the bulk of them. I am in the process of making a webpage, but who knows when that will get going.

If you want, I can email you a couple. Also, If you want to get together and compare notes.

Rock On!
