Post by pvassil3 » Sat Aug 14, 2004 11:37 pm

my plan:
1. go to full sail ( i am in two weeks)
2. finish school
3. get a job at a studio in miami or L.A.
4. engineer for someone like brittany spears or mandy moore
5. run game on them and marry them.
6. get money from my new famous wife
7. open my own studio with her money.
8. make more money
9. open up lable

i hope it works out. im leaving for school soon so i would give that plan two years to work.

From what I've read here, that sounds like the career plan of most students who attend Full Sail.

Sorry for being snarky, but I'm up early on a Sunday running through the want ads looking for a new day job.

Hmmm... two years?

The only real problem I can see with that plan is that the whole Britney-style teen pop thing is about played out. It's entirely possible that some new version of the Village People will become trendy... just how far are you willing to go in that situation, given that gay marriage just got dealt a serious setback?

Scissor Sisters, anyone? .......actually, they have quite a cool cd out now, in my opinion, so sorry for the shot.

Two years is far too long for this plan. If you aren't planning on this becoming successful within 6-9 months you just aren't serious about music and should give up.

Realisitcally speaking, give yourself many years after getting your first 'real' (assistant) recording job to hone your skillz. No offence, but so far every single person who askes me for a job fresh outta recording school still has little or no recording chops. What amazes me more it the almost total lack of a demo reel up-front. Honestly, I couldn't really care less what school you went to or even if you went to one at all if you have no reel for me to hear. The proof's always in the pudding, folks.

Other than that I love your plan! ;)

Hee hee - that's great! I'm almost 100% positive that this was posted as satire - but if wasn't - the problem is that:

3. get a job at a studio in miami or L.A. -
Where you'll be hired at first for no or close to no $ as a runner and toilet bowl cleaner

4. engineer for someone like brittany spears or mandy moore
Where even if you've been promoted to Ass. Eng. by that time you will be under instructions by the handlers, producer, and your boss not to bother the client!!

5. run game on them and marry them.
Celebs go for other celebs (i.e. J-Lo & Ben) or people with mo' money (i.e. Mariah & Tommy Motola) or sometimes in the case of male celebs tons of looks (i.e. Charlie Sheen and that model he was married to for about 3 months). In other words: gopher boy making no dough as a runner at a studio has no chance of scoring with Miss Talentless Money Bags.

6. get money from my new famous wife
Why not just skip steps 1-4 then - save all the money you'd spend at Full Sail and instead just go to the "right" gyms, restaraunts, parties and clubs so that you have an actual better chance at hooking up with Dreamg$rl? Believe it or not there are even books on this subject!

7. open my own studio with her money.
8. make more money
Hate to let you in on a secret - but people don't really make "more money" opening studios - at best they break even after paying themselves a small salary. A better plan would be to open a chain of laundromats!

9. open up lable
Where hopefully you'll have an assistant that can type - it's "label"

Good luck with the Plan!!! :)

Best regards,
Steve Berson

And how does Full Sail differ from the other many quality engineering programs across the country? He'll still be a newbie.

Just because he goes to FS does not automatically make him a good engineer. That takes years of practical work experience.

Besides, I know a lot of people with law degrees who never could pass the bar. But hey... he went to Harvard right? Never mind that he was 108 in a class of 109. :) He went to HARVARD!

Completion does not neccesarily imply talent. It simply means you didn't fail.
