other recording magazines that you guys read?
I was just wondering which other recording magazines you guys like to read. I need to pick up something for my plane ride tomorrow.

Its allways funny reading porn on airplanes. I went to vegas back in september to go see morrisey and I bought a playboy before I got on the plane. It was pretty wierd.
Re: other recording magazines that you guys read?
There's always guys readin maxim and FHM magazines on the planes. Then in the airport magazine stands there are always guys staring at the porno section of the magazines but rarely do I see anyone on the plane with one.
Re: other recording magazines that you guys read?
I read no other than TapeOp, not that I'm stubborn (actually I am), but it's because everything else sucks. If you want some magazines for free, try going to some local studios and see if they have any they are gonna toss out. We get too many magazines at the studio I work at, hell, if you're in Atlanta I'll load you up.

How about "Soldier of Fortune"? That could be fun.

For general "I need to kill some time and don't want to be challenged intellectually" reading, I've been known to read Maxim's Blender. You know how Maxim is? Ok, imagine that style of magazine applied to music. Presto - you've got Blender.

Gene Simmons' "toungue"
funniest magazine ever.
that guy, man, where to even begin with that guy...
It's sorta like the now defunct Pop Smear, which ruled, except Gene is on every page, almost literally.

Damn, I forgot about that one! You are 100% right, Dave. That man has the biggest ego ever. You should read his book. Oh man.soundguy wrote:Gene Simmons' "toungue"

I've been a KISS fan since 1977, but all this marketing they're into these days just turns me off.

Im not a kiss fan, I just dont get it. But man, I do stand in awe of the marketing machine. Last interview I heard that Eddie Trunk (biggest kiss fan on planet earth possibly) did with Gene, they were talking about licensing kiss as a whole and just hiring musicians to go out and play the shows, basically, a licensed official kiss cover band when they get too old to jam. It sorta sounded liek they were joking, but after listening to him interview gene simmons over the years, man, they so werent joking. Who else but kiss, or ahem, gene simmons, could pull of somehting like that? and people would go to see that too I bet.
I didnt even know there was a kiss book. Is it better than Motley Crue "the dirt"? thats gotta be the best rock and roll read possible. The tommy lee segments are so classic. "and, dude, I was like, so fucked up and she was just so blonde.."

The Kiss book is basically Gene Simmons' autobiography. It's interesting if you like Kiss, if not, you might be bored with it.soundguy wrote:I didnt even know there was a kiss book. It in no way compares to the Motely Crue book. That book is so great. Strippers, drugs and booze. That's all that book's about. It's great.

I like to read Keyboard magazine. They have good articles on vintage synths, including this months minimoog section. Sometimes they have tips on recording synths and all. Besides that... nothing, I guess.

i get EQ for free... though, i can't say i would suggest actually buying it. it's... ok. nothing like tapeop though. i wouldn't buy it really.
plus the guys over @ EQ hate us tapeoppers... we're often joked about by those jerks. psssh.
i second keyboard, that one isn't bad, some great articles. i don't know much else as far as recording goes...

Yea !!!
I'm not a fan of Motely Crues Music, but that book Dirt is the greatest.
i've been reading that book for years now, paragraph at a time, on the plane, on the can, on my wife. I love it.

unless... how about picking up one of those test signal/pattern books that inform you of all the legal and technical details you ever wanted to know about every signal ever. you know, the kind that is like 500 pages thick? that'll probably keep you busy or asleep.
