Here it is...

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=h ... _id/116660

This mic needs to be discussed. Has someone already taken the
plunge? I saw one other thread on this with no replies from
any one.

Opinions...please

How about taking the plunge and then discussing it with us?

I think we're all sitting around waiting for someone to do it. I even posted on the RAP group a few days ago. I figured one of those guys might have gotten one, but no responses there either.

The only true great mic on this planet is the Shure SM-57. It is the most consistant in not totally sucking of anything ever built. All other mics are "application dependant".

Yeah - WTF? Basically it's an omni? Not so good for Blumlien pair then, I guess.

The specs say 165 db SPL handling. What's the ribbon made of, drywall?

I'm skeptical but maybe they just don't know how to market this thing and have resorted to lying. Nobody else claims their ribbon mics have "extended high end" response.

Nestle, you rock! When you get it and spend some time with it, you should submit a review to Andy for the magazine.

the only review I can find is a user review from harmony central. it's a good one.

I'm currently in the market for a ribbon...but at that price I can probably find a used beyer.

I'm thinking about picking one up. The only ribbons I'm intimately familair with is the Shure 330, which I like, and the Beyer M160.

I'm waiting for the Studio Projects ribbon. I expect one within the year. Seriously.

Not that I am trying to put some rain during the parade....

I saw inside pics of this mic. The first observation--very sloppy made.
Rough stamped magnetic return circuit. Ribbon corrugation is uneven. The pitch of corrugation is too big for claimed 2um ribbon thickness, so potentially there might be problems with longterm ribbon tension--knowing Nady's service policies.... hmmm, you understand me.
The protective screens made not with wire mesh, but with perforated metal plates and glued silk (or whatever they use) screens--potentially responsible for standing waves and "in-grill" diffractions.
Looking at all these I have much of doubt they use transformer of the highest quality.

I have to admit I did not hear it, but looking at all these I wouldn't be in rush buying it, but wait untill I hear impressions from respectable reviwers, esp. in comparison to other well known ribbons.

I spoke with one of the cats from Nady about what to do in case a ribbon was blown. They said they weren't sure and that at this point they don't offer re-ribboning. That's reason enough for me not to waste my money on one. Even if they did offer re-ribbonings, I don't know how much trust I'd put in Nady. The specs look umimpressive too. I seem to have trouble returning mic's ("sanitary issue" was the last excuse I heard at Sherman Oaks guitar center). Keep your eye on the established modern ribbon companies to come out with 'budget' (even though $900 for the AEAR84 is a great deal already) ribbons within the next year.
