did you see the speck channel strips with the mix functions ?

I feel those would make a pretty great 10 channel mixer, automatically expandable too, in the 1400$/channel range..i dunno if they offer a master section and theres no VU meters just led's on the pre modules..

i love my allen&heath mixwizard... it's a 16 channel, and i worry about the day when i want to expand to 24 channels. maybe i'll just chain together TWO mixwizards.

VU meters as in big analog dials, or are we just talking about LED meters.
Meters are going to be the toughest thing at that size, mostly because they are an expensive option and most consoles of that size are aimed at budget markets. I love my little MixWizard 16.2dx as well, and like the look of the mark 3 model that is coming out, but no meters on the channels, just the stereo bus. Same with Mackie, same with Soundcraft, unless you're talking about a vintage 200b or something.
You said cost didn't matter so much though, so maybe there is something for you. But boy, I just looked at the Manley 16x2, the TL Audio M3 Tube-Tracker and the Trident S-100, all of which I thought had meters, and all of which only have stereo meters, not channel meters. The CraneSong Spider has meters per channel but is only 8 channels and I don't recall if it is linkable to 16.
The only thing I can think of that is a reasonably small foot print board with built-in meters per channel is the Soundcraft 328xd, and that is a 16 channel stock, expandable to 32 channel digital board. But at that point, a Tascam DM-24 plus meter bridge, a Yamaha DM-1000 plus meter bridge, etc. are all possible.

It's tough to make suggestions without more info on what you need. Do you need to stay compact? do you want high-end sound and build? analog only or is digital a possibility?
Any other hard requirements?

Do you want it to be a 10 input to a 2ch output, or do you want it to have 10 buses? You should be able to find a 10+ input consoule with a stereo out with stereo VU meters no problem.

You can find a nice 16 channel Trident Fleximix for around 2k right now. Fits all your criteria and they sound great :)

although a bit too 80's for my taste.
bWaha. I think I know the one you're talking about. I saw it on ebay too.., about a year ago! What's up with the hot pink scribble logo? It's gone now. Did somebody buy it. Wasn't it in North Korea or some frightening place?

Check out www.soniccircus.com. There's a really cool API 16 chanel sidecar that's wired for 8 bus outs. 32K....but it is 16 channels of API.
