Bands that John Feldmann produces (he is the lead guitarist for Goldfinger) have great rock drum sounds. These bands include The Used (Self Titled) and Story Of The Year (Page Avenue).

I found out he uses PT with a plugin that models analog tape. The snares always sound tight and punctuated, the kicks punchy and deep, the toms full, and the cymbals crisp and clean. Check out those records...great recordings in general.

***Noise and Kisses, by The Used has an excellent example in its intro...

I'd love to know more about how Tony Visconti got the drum sound on T.Rex's "The Slider" title track back in 1972.

man I was just thinking about posting something about the drums on that record. That whole record kicks so much ass, sonically and musically. I think my favorite drums on a Trex album are on the track cosmic dancer on electric warrior.

And I thought it was that last breeders record. learn something everyday.

If I remember correctly, the peter gabriel album 'so' has stewart copeland credited for hi-hats. I mean, imagine that, calling him up and asking him to stop by your french palace to play some hi-hats. 'no thank you stewart, just hi-hats'. he does rock the hi-hats though. I'd call him if I could but I'm nerdy enough to ask him to whip out the old octabons.

My favorite drum sound is definitly Chad Sexton's on pretty much any 311 album. Like them or not, that sound is all in the way he plays. The way he gets that so many different snare sounds is all in his wrist. I guess it never hurts having Ron St. Germain produce and engineer your albums. That reminds me of another great drum sound. Ron did "Quickness" by Bad Brains. Those drums are definitly nice too.

Yes, yes, and YES. The drums sound absolutely HUGE on this album! It doesn't hurt that Steve Smith is a monster drummer, either. I beseech you all to buy a copy of this CD.

What? You're still reading this thread? Get thee to a CD store, post haste!

the drums on Southern Harmony & Musical Companion are pretty impressive IMO.

Oh wait, duh....best ever is AC/DC Back in Black. Amazing.

One of my favorite drum sounds is by a band called The Clientele.
Although the whole record sounds great, (minus the intentional hiss in mix, to make it sound old, I guess) the drums really stand out to me.

Particularly on "When You And I Were Young," the ride and snare sound so crisp and light and airy and perfect to me.

The drums in Godspeed You! Black Emperor's "Antennas to Heaven" sound incredible, as well.

Also, although I don't care for full-out rock drums all too much, I love the playing and heaviness of the drums throughout Weezer's Pinkerton.

Gotta agree on Waiting for Superman, Chad Sexton, and AC/DC...pretty diverse sounds, but all great. Personally, my favorite drum sounds are
The Weight...The Beatles
anything by John Bonham
Pass the Mic...Beastie Boys, actually, anything off of Check Your Head
Two Fine Lovers...Sean Lennon (hihats especially)
the last song from the latest Sigur Ros album, ( )

yeah, drums are good stuff

Now that's something you don't hear very often. That kind of leaves me speechless. Saw parts of that record get made. Interesting process. Gotta give a shout out to Tom Schick. Good engineer.

Gotta give it up for Little SW on Innervisions, by the way.

I actually like Red Hot Chilli Peppers Blood Sugar Sex Magik

and of couse When The Levee Breaks

and I like the Cream records. Gingers sound isnt the best, but its probably the most classic.
