Bucket Brigade delay...

Post by DUC » Sun Jul 20, 2003 10:14 am

Any good manufacturers out there? I have a Carl Martin, but it sucks. Very noisy. Are the Electro Harmonix ones any good. I need one when I'm not using my Echoplex. Kinda' to extend its life.

Anyone use the moogerfooger? I know they don't make 'em any more.

Is a Bucket Brigade Delay one of those tapeless analogue devices? If it is I have an Evans AE205.

Yeah, it's an anolog device. How's the Evans AE205 working out for you. Any good? Never heard of it.

I have two of the Ibanez rack mount analog delays. They rule. really nice. Nice and quiet.

I have a moogerfooger as well and like it.

The Ibanez is more for a nice delay sound and the moogerfooger is a little more "what is that sound?" type of effect.

Ibanez AD202 is nice

so is Yamaha E1010 or E1005.

I use a Yamaha E1005 live. Nice creamy analog delays. And it's quiet!

The Yamaha E1010 & E1005 are good for normal, clean use (IMO).
If you're looking for something fairly extreme, Blacet Research's Time Machine is capable of some truly wacky spit. The downside is it's designed as a synthesizer module, which means (a) it needs some sort of mounting setup as well as a separate power supply, & (b) it's optimized for higher signal levels than most delays, so to get the most out of it you have to have a pretty hot input.

Are you looking for a rack unit or a pedal?

For rack units, the Yamaha units (E1010 and E1005) do sound good and can usually be had for a lot less than Ibanez AD-202, which also sounds great. I got my E1005 for $60 and E1010 for $75, but that was 3 or 4 years ago. The Ibanez usually fetches between $150-200.

You should also keep an eye out for the Roland DC-10. I really like the sound of them, but they are fairly hard to find. Got mine 5 or 6 years ago for $40, no idea how much they would cost now.

The DOD R-880 Dual Delay has (not surprisingly, considering the name) 2 simultaneous delays, but they are fairly short delay times. I don't have the specs on it, but max delay is probably around 200 ms. Maybe that's enough for your application.

For pedals, the BOSS DM-2 and DM-3 are great. I prefer the DM-2, but their prices are a little too high these days. The Ibanez AD-9 sounds pretty good. The Mooger Fooger is cool, I've only heard it a couple of times, but I wouldn't pay the prices it currently commands.

The Electro-Harmonix Memory Man is a good sounding box and very useful. I have one and like it a lot.

Let me second the Roland DC-10. I sold mine (I needed other stuff more) but it was really nice and warm, and has internal trimpots that make it very versatile. I suppose I ought to have kept it. I have the Boss DD-20 now and the analog simulations are actually really good, but still, I miss those giant knobs.

i have the rockman analog delay. i assume it's a bucket brigade in there. if your effects weren't made by the dude who wrote "more than a feeling", then i don't wanna hear it. i haven't compared it to any other tapeless analog delays, but i like it alot.

I'm more interested in stuff that is built now. Or, if I'm lucky, NOS. I'm weary of used crapola.

I know Maxon and Guyatone have analog delays. Never tried them.

How's the Memory Man reissues? Does the tremelo part suck?

The EH Deluxe Memory man is a killer analog delay. The chorus/vibrato on it is merely just an LFO modulating the delay time. It's my desert island pedal for sure. Just a bit of that modulation on a longer delay time and it gets gorgeously swirly.

I second third and fourth the Ibanez AD202.

As for new stuff, all the current analog delays are so pricey compared to older used stuff that I would sooner buy a Line 6 Delay Modeler and use it's Echoplex patch than buy a new analog delay (other than a Memory Man reissue).

If you want tape, check out the new Fulltone unit.

Yeah someone answer that!!

Roger I just googled Fulltone - that thing looks fantastic. Kind of like a heavy duty car battery. Awesome. How much is that going to go for I wonder. It's valve too. Do you know of any other manufacturers of tape echo? I hope I can afford that thing.

I couldn't agree more with this.

However, the Memory Man is an outstanding device. Highly recommended.

BTW, I too want to know what 'bucket brigade' means!
