AT3035 vs KSM's
AT3035 vs KSM's
Oh yeah...my other thought was to save up more $$$ for some Shure KSM series mics (ie KSM 27, 32 or 44) How does the AT stack up against them?

Re: AT3035 vs KSM's
AT 3035 is sort of bulbous and loose, but still a good, usable mic. It has a less sophisticated bottom end than the KSM27. The KSM27 has a very smooth bottom, but can be a bit pointed on the top. The KSM44 is really the one worth with getting in the KSM line and it's frequency response flattens out considerably compared to the less expensive mics. The KSM27 can work well for one on a budget.
Interesting would be to A/B the Audio Technica 3060 (tube version of the 3035) with the Shure line. I think you might find those much closer. Also, comparing a mic like the MXL 2003 with those might be cool too. The 2003 gives you comparable features such as pad and roll-off switches like the KSM27.

"bulbous and loose"-- that's great, I've never heard that one before. It just goes to show how Monk was right; talking about music is like dancing about architecture.
FWIW, AT3035 is an electret. I wouldn't make any judgments based on that; I'm just presenting it as an interesting fact (mainly because I don't have anything of substance to say on the matter). I'll shut up now.
