I work part time at a vintage music store, mostly to get great deals on gear and i also use it to advertise my studio somewhat...

A friend of the owner has just become the manager of paisley park (prince's studio) and he came in with a bunch of requests for lenny kravitz next project in november. But until november, prince is recording himself...

Rumour 1 ... Prince does not allow any engineers in his prescence during recording they all sit in a lounge until prince intercoms them and simply says "studio c" (or whatever) they go in there patch the shit or whatever and return to the lounge...

Rumour 2... Prince recently wanted the sound of a fiery lead (literally) He had the minneapolis fire department construct a cinder block room and then he proceeded to light a marshall half stack on fire and play a supposedly amazing lead for 8 minutes until the fire department put out the fire on the amp. supposedly the sound is amazing...

Rumor: a musician planning to work with Prince sent his demo tape so they could collaborate and Prince sent him His own tape in response. Along with it was a note saying Prince had pissed on his demo, and would he please urinate on Prince's demo and send it back. WTF?

if i had his kind of bank i would do the same stupid shit but even better and more dangerous..i think i might put liquid heat in the engineers jock like in revenge of the nerds to get a raw and fast production..lol..and i would set fire to tons of gear..maybe even use heavy expolsives and kangaroos with lasers..what do you think Wing? is that a good place to mount a laser?

One of my bandmates sat in on a session at Prince's studio when he was a kid. I don't think Prince was there though. That's the end of my story.

his childhood name that the kids tauanted him with was skippy. some guy i met said someone dared one of his staff to call him skippy. he did. he was fired.

i just covered a prince song in a band and felt funny playing it...but it was fun.

a guy was mixing an album at paisley park and accidentlaly spilled an entire cup of coffee into the faders of an ssl...said nothing happened. said prince would call every 1/2 hour asking when he would be done.

I have a friend who used to work for Sony Music's design department. Prior to one of Prince's tour, he was assigned to create designs for tour merchandise (shirts, posters, etc.). The design group presented their designs, posted to the walls of a conference room, to Prince and his girlfriend/wife at the time. The two of them walked about the room reviewing their work in complete silence. When they were done, they sat down and she spoke, pointing to various pieces on the walls.

But yeah I've heard a bunch of Prince rumors. Being from Minneapolis they run abound.

the prince story is worth the price of admission alone!

I'm a big prince fan, but no doubt the guy is a total freak. His stuff is totally hit or miss, too. If you like to hear him play rock guitar, check out a slightly under the radar record called "chaos and disorder". ADAT demos that were never meant to see the light of day, but he used them to fulfill his last record obligation to warner. Completely kick-ass rock record full of great songs...

back to kevin smith... anyone who's a kevin smith fan should have that DVD. It's four hours long and doesn't get boring once! He's a really great storyteller. The one about how he met his wife is unbelievable!!!
