Pawn shop mic choices

Post by choke3d » Tue Oct 19, 2004 11:38 am

Just stopped by the local pawnery and noticed a Shure SM96 (condensor) and an EV 650a (maybe it was a 670a) for about $50 each. I'm intrigued mostly by the SM96, but I searched quite a bit and didn't find any mentions. Anybody have any experience with either of these mics? Worth it?

I'd grab the sm96. Any little shure condenser COULD be kick ass on snare, etc.. for 50 bucks, I'd certainly wanna try it. I think rush uses this (or could it be the sm98?) on snare live.

Variations incarnations of the SM98 are used on snare drums, usually live. I'm not sure how the 96 relates but you can look up its user manual (PDF) on Shure's website.
