Yamaha MG 10/2

Post by pantone247 » Wed Oct 20, 2004 5:15 am

I'm thinking of getting one, they look sort of great... getting it as a front end sort of pre-amp, Eq stage before running into my i-mac... maybe do a kit and send it in on stereo... It's totally a lo-fi home reocording hooby thing.

Anything I should know or be aware of before I throw down the "BIG BUCKS" on this baby???

Thanks!

I have one. I love it. I run drums through it into my iMac. On occasion I use it in front of my 4-track as well.

If you're sure you're really ready to shell out the big bucks for this thing... watch out. There are some shysters trying to sell this thing for $99 when you can easily get it other places for $96. :P

They're cool, but don't expect many signal routing options or outs. the coolest thing is that it's pretty small, sounds decent and provides phantom power.

I had an MG 16/4 and over all it was a nice mixer. I just didn't like the fact that I couldn't Monitor the music going into my MOTU 828 which is why I bought the Mackie 1604 with direct outs. It would have been nice to have kept it but I needed the money for the Mackie. If the Imac lets you monitor the sounds, unlike the MOTU 828 where you only monitor 2 channels at a time, then go ahead and get it. I got some good sounds out of mine. It has some nice preamps.
For some good new music check out The Medusas

listen to some of their Mp3's at Pure Volume

One is on its way to me (eBay: 50 bucks!!). Will report back on preamp quality, etc. For such low $, seems to have lots of features.
