Whats a good EQ for drums???

Post by SqueeGees » Tue Oct 26, 2004 12:28 am

just wondering what your favorite setup for the EQ is.

I use a Behringer ub1832fx, with four band EQ on all channels, and a nine band over the main mix, was also wondering what you might suggest for a basic five mic set in a office with two windows and acoustics that are not to desireable,

iam looking to add a bit of depth over the main mix... mabey a little more pop to the snare and more punch to the kick...

any help would be umm... helpful.

I try my best to get the drums in tune and the mics in phase and have to do very little EQ to the drums at all. In tracking, I guess I've been recently applying some low mid cut to the ambient mics in certain rooms via a Sontec MEP-250EX. I really love an API 550A on kick. In a mix, I'll usually use whatever's available on the console (and usually in small amounts, if anything). Some outboard EQs that I have really liked in the past are the Oram MWS for kick and/or snare, Neve 1073 for kick and/or snare, Neve 33135A for kick, Audio Design Recording Vocal Stresser for snare and room mics, Focusrite Red Series or ISA modules for snare and/or overheads, Pultec EQP-1A for kick, Manley Vox Box for snare, Langevin Pultecs for kick, snare, and overheads, and just about anything by API for anything related to drums.
