Best snare hit ever?
It's gotta be "Wouldn't It Be Nice." Right?

Probably the intro to Born To Be Wild

Wouldn't It Be Nice is HIGH on my list, but so is the middle section/intro to the last verse of "Born to Run." We call that the "money shot."

"Wouldn't it be nice if we were older, then we wouldn't have to wait so long..."
I mean, I agree.

Hah! I knew you'd weigh in! This post was practically Rodgre bait. I forgot about "Born to Run"--agreed, it's a hell of a shot.Rodgre wrote:Wouldn't It Be Nice is HIGH on my list, but so is the middle section/intro to the last verse of "Born to Run." We call that the "money shot."
I also remembered--I love the opening of "Radio Free Europe."

Not necessarily the best sounding one, but for social impact the hit at the beginning of "Like A Rolling Stone" should be mentioned.

Re: Best snare hit ever?
The correct answer is also the correct answer in the "Greatest Rock 'n 'Roll Single" thread: The Kinks "You Really Got Me".
Or was it "All Day And All Of The Night"?
Either way: I drive a little faster after the snare drops than I was before.

What about right before the rockout part on "Bohemian Rhapsody"?
I stayed up late last night finishing the chapter on Queen (& etc) in Mark Cunningham's book "Good Vibrations". ANyone else read this? A good deal of the last couple of pages was all about the wild mix of analog and pre-digital automation going on. Sounded like chaos.

Re: Best snare hit ever?
all the one's y'all have mentioned are great....Rain, Wouldn't It Be Nice, The Kink's tune(I mean, there's about three of those that are nearly identical,right?)....but one that always moves me is the fill Ringo does
right near the end of Ticket to Ride.
Right before....it may be the last chorus. There's this hole just begging for another drum fill, and it's just one....SMACK! Just the right tastey thing to do.
Gets me every time.

Re: Best snare hit ever?
I think there's another great snare hit on the Kinks' "Picture Book"? I gotta dig that one out to confirm.
What about "Glass Onion." That's a heckuva snare hit there
I agree with Corin, "Like A Rolling Stone" is waaaay important as far as snare hits go

Snare hit, or snare sound?
I'd go with Stewart Copeland's snare sound on just about any police track.
