multiple monitor pair question

Post by aishabag23 » Fri Nov 05, 2004 11:38 am

i'm wondering if there is a such thing as an a/b box for monitor sets.... i would like to be able to have at least two sets of monitors hooked up to my stuff and be able to switch back and forth for reference.

does anyone know if this exists and if so, what it's called & who sells it?

I've been trying to find something like that too so I would also be interested in a response. I have been thinking about trying to build something ... it can't be too hard to put together a switcher box like that.

Ran across these the other day - just scroll down. Cannot vouch for the products or the comapny (I was looking for a cheap phono pre-amp):

Be careful of your load with those things - Pretty easy to get two (or more) sets running at once. Wouldn't want to roast the amp.

What you need is a switching source not unlike the center section 'external to monitor' on an SSL console. Look into the Mackie Big Knob for that. Should do all that you need it to and more.

Adcom and Yamaha both make speaker switchers. My Adcom has a protector button to be able to run more than one set and a time and not screw up the amp.

I think DBX makes a unit called "studio rack" or something like that. I think it has 3 different speaker output selections. Also probably an RTA, graphic EQ, etc..
I think.

Unless one is using a console of some sort, then it's redundant.

I use a simple Rat-Shack box, No. 15-1952, that I paid about US$15 for.

I mix with olive juice.
