What Headphones are you guys using?
What Headphones are you guys using?
I'm looking for a good pair of headphones for mixing. Ya know, not the kind to give to the band while tracking, but something for reference. I like a hyped low end, big drivers, etc. What are you guys using and what do you like about them? I've tried a lot of different ones (AT H40fs, Sony 7506, 600, 700) but it's hard to make a decision. Thanks fellow tape dudes!

Sony 7506,
Sony MDR's to reference, also (walkman-types.)

Sony 7506's. They are familiar and I know what they should sound like. They are comfy also

I swear by my AKG 240 DFs. Very "defined" sound and a very good referance for stereo speration. Also, a "relatively" fair low end reference.

Sennheisser 280 pros. Great headphones. great isolation.
Re: What Headphones are you guys using?
Ditto the SH 280 Pros. All that, and a hyped low end. Pretty affordable, too.

beyer dt770s.... good isolation for the live room - but probably too bright for any mixing.
i need to get the ultrasone 650s... they sounded beautiful at aes.

I'll be a bigger snob...
Sennheiser HD-600, and now the new 650s.
These are circumaural (fit around the ear) so they are more comfortable, they are open air, so they sound more like speakers than sealed-ear styles, and they also have a very wide and very flat frequency response.
The HD 580s are very nice as well, and can be had from about $150 on eBay.

Like the MDR sets? http://www.thecarbonflaw.com/gear/img/sony1.jpgJeff Robinson wrote: and a set of Sony DJ headphones (silver model) the # escapes me.
Mine are MDR-V300, but I don't mix with them (or any, for that matter). Just track. $50.

I use AKG D-240s exclusively. I'd wear them with my walkman on the subway except that I'd look like a dork.
