ART PRO VLA (Whatzzzz Up..?)

Post by snatchman » Mon Dec 20, 2004 4:50 pm

Hi guys/gals, I've seen this compressor posted here quite a lot and I'm wondering exactly how it performs. I 've even seen it praised in the company of some "high-end" compressors, used by some experienced engineers, etc. So, what makes the VLA "useful", as the cost doesn't really reflect the performance ratio! Just want to justify that saying, "you get what you pay for"..because if it's as good as the posts, I want me one! :D  8)

it is great for a lot of things - but it really does do magic with DI bass. I would look for a used one - since I am fairly confident they moved the manufacturing over to China, and some people on this board have had trouble with the new ones.

stereo buss is a cool sound for sure, but not something I'd use all the time.
I like smashing tracks to tape, and if I didn't have a nice two track to do that with, I'd use the VLA on the stereo buss more.

At that price range, the RNC is more versatile overall and more transparent sounding. But the Pro VLA handles bass much better IMO and has more sonic character.
