Yes that is a scalloped fret board. Frankly I don't understand the benefits or draw, but I've never played one so I'm ignorant to the feel of them.

They're supposed to be good for two hand tapping and sweep arpeggios and all that stuff that was big in the 80's. guitar pyrotechnics.

How about Ted Nugent "Great White Buffalo", the opening when he goes to that d chord drives me nuts. Not a Ted fan anyway.

Thank you but no thank you, I'll gladly let those things alone then.

Wow. I thought I had seen one that looked a little different. I'll look for a picture. I'm not a luddite but I don't think modifcations for the sake of modifying necessarily represent any progression.

The Smiths' "Meat Is Murder" has some horrible vocal pitch problems. I'm not talking just a bum note here or there, but whole lines and phrases that are out of tune.

Has no one mentioned that gawdawful solo in The Troggs "Wildthing"?
Talk about a teeth clenching moment.

This is a great thread. It has got me thinking how there is cool "out of tune"
and ghastly. Most Beatles and Stones stuff falls into the former category. Most people (well, at least me) respond more to the vibe of music and not the technicality of it. And when they are combined you are blown away (Django,Jimmy Bryant,Jimi etc). Iv'e never noticed out of tune guitar in Monkey Man . That third chord with the flat five is beautiful. Afterall, the tritone is the devil's interval and is supposed to drive you crazy...

I guess it would be a curse to have perfect pitch.

Oops, I meant sharp five. Either way I love that disonance.

I've got to stop looking at this board so early in the morning...

The last note of Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody to Love" is sharp.

Scodiddly wrote:Tom Waits - "Johnsburg, Illinois" off the Swordfishtrombones album. He's pretty free with his pitch anyway, but that song is like a litmus test.

I cried when I heard it, and not because of the pitch. it's was so good that my ear didn't even pick it up

How about Andy Summer's guitar (E, I think) in Da Doo Doo Doo De Da Da Da? Flat as hell.

Flute solo on California Dreamin' is still my favorite. I have to brace myself for it everytime it comes on the radio.
It's nice to be nice to the nice.

This is kindof a weird example, but I know of entire mixes that are 'out of tune'.
Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" is out of tune (about a halfstep) when it was first digitally remastered because the original tape speed (in 1959) was slightly slow but mastered on a calibrated tape machine. weirdddd.
Same with ACDC's promotion version of 'Back In Black'. It was up a half step, making it the key of F..very odd.

but really, the most out of tune band ever was

THE DOORS!
Seriously, on almost any song, that guitar is very out of tune. Usually because of bending. Although, it adds character and I find it enjoyable.

I thinks 'Wildthing' very out of tune ,but that adds character!

That lead guitar in 'The Pusher' by Steppenwolf is wicked sharp. but hey, they were so high who the hell cares

Countless John Lee Hooker songs are insanely flat. that was more or less the recording

'Hell Aint a Bad Place To Be' by ACDC..the opening chords are a little off...infact the whole band is about a half step flat

Nugent was sharp quite often. Ithink it was because he loved thoes double chords and he bent them like a mofo .

The last note of 'Somebody to Love' as someone mentioned

but with all this stuff said Ithink youll find many many bands (more than youd think) are relatively tuned, and not perfectly tuned. another words, the entire band is sharp/flat. rock music downtuned does tend to sound more aggressive.

In a Shanghi Noodle Factory by Traffic. Stevie Winwood sings some real ringers in that one.
