Isn't it true that Bob Dylan sped up the entire "Blood on the Tracks" album by a half step during the mastering? Not out of tune, but a variation on that theme.

Nobody dislikes Blood on the Tracks, right? Unless it's your own blood?

i always thought was just morrisey's style... he always seemed to just kinda slide past the notes, and not really hold'em. i dig the smiths. seemed to work for what they did really well.

Billie Holiday often sang flat, but when your voice is that involving, who gives a toss? Actually adds to the emotion in her case i think.

the solo to zeppelin's "tangerine" is awesomely out of tune.

it's intentional, but the boss hits a badass "wrong" note in the 2nd verse of "10th Ave. Freeze Out" on these words:

night is dark but the sidewalk's bright

it's cool.

ps neil young's a much better singer than you're told.

Hi allz.
just to get back to the scalloped fingerboard thing, just in case anybody is wondering why they exist, the idea is that when you fret on a normal fingerboard, part of your fingertip touches the wood, slowing you down slightly, especially for bends. Some older classical stringed instruments had scalloped boards, Ritchie Blackmore was the first of the modern guys to do it.It feels a bit weird, there's the string, the fret, your finger tip, and air underneath.Good for all the hypertechnical stuff, also for bends and vibrato, NOT ideal for rhythm playing. Not my cup of tea, if i'm honest. But an Ibanez JEM is probably the best guitar to get scalloped....basically an RG550 with a hole cut in it, fancy paint and pickups. RG550 is the closest thing to a classic superstrat, i'm pretty much vintage style all the way but I have a (non-scalloped) RG550 and for some stuff it rocks like a biatch.

Anyway, back on topic, ;-p

My favourite out of tune stuff is the entire Fugazi back catalog. They rule, it doesn't matter in the slightest, andI love em.To pick just one bit, Guy's ends of phrases in the chorus of "Full Disclosure"

;-p

Take it easy

How about Ted Nugent "Great White Buffalo", the opening when he goes to that d chord drives me nuts.
I don't know how you oculd reallly tell......

Also, it seems like I figured out Her Strut by Bob Seger years ago, and it sounded like the whole band was tuned down a half step. It is played in open "E", but the album version sounded to me like everything was tuned down to "Eb" It is not really out of tune, and it gives the song a really heavy sound.

I tend to think of a lot of fugazi's stuff as dischordant, i don't think all that much is out of tune as such.

I once heard him on NPR say he can't tune a guitar. Amazing.

Dub and Reggae horns have been mentioned, what about all of Burning Spear's Rocking Time especially Bad to Worst. The Bass is almost a quarter tone out in parts, but it's so good. Then again all good reggae (and ska) is out of tune a little.

The guitar harmonies on Bad Company's "Can't Get Enough of Your Love". Whenever I hear that I just think, "Boy, Paul Rodgers can sing!".
