Did a transfer from the Radar into Ableton, did a "Dub Version" of a song and then sent it back home to the Radar. A lot less painful than I thought It'd be.

Leftover Thai for lunch.

I spent the day trying to get a squirrel out of my basement home studio.

I highly recommend the (analog) Havahart Model 1030 Cage Trap.

I do not recommend using a broom and cardboard box.

felt like you chris - i'm playing "session drummer" for a .friends band and had my first practice with them. very, very strange playing with a new bass player after playing with the same person for 4 yrs. we have 2 more practices then first of like 7 shows in jan.

they also play way quieter than im used to, and there's a lot of swing (which my band has little of) so i had to dust off those triplets and cobwebs. my bass drum sounds like crap for this style of music - i need a jazz kit for it. 20" bass drum and not muffled. and lighter sticks

Just got finished getting my recording compputer up and running, Just installed the dvd burner, and being the dumbass with computers that i am, trying to connect the cable from the mobo to the dvd burning while the computer on, i accidentaly stuck my nuckle into the fan for the processor. Pretty stupid thing to do, the fan works fine, but my knuckle was bleeding a little.
But now i can do some archiving of some old clients and start recording again :D

The first "final" mix from a live jazz recording tracked just before the holidays. +/-30 songs were recorded and "rough" mixes of all 30 songs were made. After evaluating the rough mixes, a half dozen half been selected for the full final mix treatment. Today was the 1st song; 8ch recording of jazz trio: one drum mic, one piano mic, one acoustic bass mic, stereo pair, and three vocal mics. So far, no effects, and only minimal processing. The "mix" consists of panning the spot mics to match the stereo pair, then adjusting levels and listening for any adjustments that need to be made during the song (as opposed to a static mix that is fixed for the duration of the tune). So far, the only outboard gear used was a single API 550, used as a Hi-Pass filter to kill some bass rumble in the piano mic. Other than that, its all panning and fader moves.

12/29: Spent the morning at a local (badass) studio, trying to learn the room better so I can fill in occasionally. Then did some more work on some songs for a friend of mine at my studio. I played some xylophone tracks, all first takes. And recorded some cool backing vocals.

Preproduction for the opening night New Year's blues show at the Beale Street NW here in Portland.

Funny name, considering they're in NE Portland...

A friend of mine who has instruments and some digital equipment recently called and wanted to get together to lay some overdubs to finish his newest project that has been put off. I hauled my analog gear I've been accumulating for some time over to his place, and we just pooled our resources for some interesting sessions. It really is turning out better than I thought it would. I've been out of the game for a while, from this fear of what you guys call "studio suck."

Anyway, this is my first post.... handle with care.

welcome mistersalty!!!

well i got my eyes checked to eat up some insurance money that would be lost otherwise, surprisingly i don't need new glasses to replace the ones that are only 8 months old.

came home, played banjo a bit. sat down behind my North drumset which i haven't played since i moved to boston for school. it's sitting at my parents house. what a fun beast that is. it was my first drumset, i got it for 50 bucks 8 years ago.....pretty much perfect condition except for the rack was a bit beat up, i've got all the original heads. i can't believe i used to play that set when i was in 8th grade, it's a massive lump of fiberglass, i can barely play it now.

wished i was still down in north carolina visiting family, more for the cheerwine, sweet tea, and barbeque though than the kin folk
