Looking for a Mentor if possible

Post by TeleKing » Thu Dec 30, 2004 8:02 pm

I'm fairly new to recording although I have some solid gear so far. Mainly a musician turned recording enthusiast after a few disappointing recording sessions.

I don't fully or probably even halfly understand the nuances of recording but feel and am told I have a great ear for it.

However, I could really use some knowledge and a person who might enjoy helping a new guy out pursuing a new found passion. I am looking for an experienced person who can help me make decisions on gear and explain things I'm not sure I fully understand. I understand that nobody knows everything, but I'd like to find a guy who can explain at least some of my questions.

If you are interested, please contact me. Not sure how I can repay you for the help, but I'll do my best.

I'd really appreciate any help anyone can give. Thanks

Books can help answer some questions. That and just trying things until they make sense.

I need you to answer the following questions first:

1. Analog or digital? (There is only one right answer to this, so don't screw it up.)

2. 57 or 58? (see above)

3. A properly placed coke mirror will be found on which side of the console?

4. What are the correct ingredients in a burrito?

5. Do you have any sisters? Please list ages and weights.

please be prompt, as I have a waiting list...

Yours,
trashy.

Nobody mentors consciously. Try looking around your local area for an internship, or some other way to see how recording happens. Maybe save up and book a session with your favorite studio, then ask and ask and axe...

or ask this guy:

There's loads of good info here, try the search function when you want to know something and then post your question. Practice is really the only way to get to know what you're up to, but if you can afford to do an internship i'd definately go for that. Mostly though, have fun.

I heard a rumour he was rounding up to $45 at the end of this tax year. Hope this doesn't cause a rush.

Can I ask a quick question? What equipment do you currently own?

I live in an underground (sewer) dojo/recording studio. I am currently training 4 young turtles in the arts of ninjitsu and Digital recording. They are getting older and are probably going to move in with some slut named april. Anyway, I will have a spare room and you can use my pro tools HD setup. Also, I am a mutant rat.

I'm a mentor of sorts. I once taught a man to tear phonebooks in half with his mind, and to summon forth creatures of the forest by massaging nearby trees. His name was Rod Stewart, though during his time as my disciple, I refferred to him as "The Rodular Being." I later taught a man to speak dolphin, and to hover slightly while doing mic placement. When his third-eye was finally open, he went on to become "Cameo." Word Up? Indeed.

I have not taught for many years. I've spent the last thirty years of my earthly being in a cave, contemplating all things warm and punchy. I may take on another student, but he must first be a level 9 wizard, and have the ability to speak in the tongue of dragons. Here's my card:
