Has anyone ever recorded tunes into a portable mp3 player?

and if so - was it problematic?

we use a Phillips HDD 20 gig hard drive based mp3 player to catch things in practice that we want to work on next session, and it sounds decent.

problem is - sometimes during recordings, the damn thing just stops recording and we can't figure out why.

the disk is nowhere near being full, and we usually never record longer than 8 minutes or so.

but randomly, the thing will just stop.

has anyone had similar problems using a hard disk based mp3 player like an ipod or creative labs model or whatever?

I have an iRiver that I've used for practice recordings; I've never had it quit mid-song on me, but I know there's some limitation on continuous recording time mentioned in the manual.
