Uh, about those gigabytes...
So I finally dropped a new processor in my G4 over the Holidays and the result was jawdropping.
Yes, I've been torturing myself with a 400mhz processor running an 001 and Pro Tools. I've had to deal with the speed issue in any number of ways.
Since the Other World Computing 1.5 Gig processor is now mostly dedicated to running RTAS plugs. I am beginning to think that installing a few (or at least one) UAD-1s would be the next step to take this system to it's ultimate end. Having those dedicated to plugin processing as well, the mix headroom would be greatly appreciated while staying in the box.
Anybody else do the software mod with the UAD-1 to allow for RTAS processing? Qualms or issues? Things to know?

I do not know if this is a fact, but I hear those systems have latency issues. Worth investigating...

What did you do exactly? I've never heard of this processor. I have a G4 myself that i'd probably want to upgrade sooner or later. Tell me more please.Jeff Robinson wrote:So I finally dropped a new processor in my G4 over the Holidays and the result was jawdropping.

yeah, Jeff, which brand did you get- OWC sells a few. I know they all have mixed results. I've got a G4/400 that needs an upgrade too.
Was it the Mercury Extreme?

Uh, gigahertz, yes.
Indeed the Mercury Extreme. A breeze to install and blissful results.
As for the latency, with low latency selected and 128 samples in the hardware set-ups selected as well, there are no issues. Totally liveable.
All of America should be rocking with these machines now that the hardware makes them have a stupid amount of mix headroom.
Anybody using the UAD-1s though?

Hey Jeff, I think the post about latency was talking about the UAD card. There have been lots of posts in the computer forum about the latency with this card. I was thinking of one as well until I heard this.Jeff Robinson wrote: As for the latency, with low latency selected and 128 samples in the hardware set-ups selected as well, there are no issues.
