Sources on building gear

Post by CalibratedRecording » Tue Aug 05, 2003 7:32 pm

Can anyone recommend any good sources on building mic pres/eqs/compressors/effects boxes?

I am a recording student and have a good background in digital and analog electronics.....just looking for another way to make myself useful in the studio world when I get there.....

There are many sources on the net. Someone recently mentioned the Gyraf DIY site. Paia.com is a good place to start if you're looking for simple kits.

I build a lot of my own pedals and I frequent a lot of the forums and sites for that on the net. Search "guitar effect schematics" and you'll find one or two and from there, you can link to many others. Ampage. GEO, AMZ-FX, etc....

generalguitargadgets.com has schematics as well as parts layout diagrams and other helpful info for beginners (like me). also, the "group diy" site (don't have the url on me, but there's a link on gyraf's page, i think) is a must-see.

it's amazing how nice all these diy gurus are to share their info so avidly

Small Bear Electronics has all the stompbox parts, and I also recommend building an amp! Try Mission Amps, or look on eBay for this guy Tino Zottola who has a pretty good new book about building tube ampe out of scrounged parts.

I like PAiA too.
