I can usually get my bands to at least buy a few reels of 2" and also many reels of 1/2" tape. Sounds like you need to think about a new angle Dave...

I wonder how many people actually know this about ATR now.

yeah, no kiddding. Id rather work with bands that can play than bands that can afford say, lunch, let alone $2k for tape. Perhaps the ultimate catch 22...

Word was they had negotiated for the BASF/Emtec 900 formula when Emtec folded. Is anyone else reading this comment on the lower output formulation to be 468? Awesome, I never did get to try 468, and I hear it's the bomb.

this is a beautiful thing.

in the chaos after the tape "shortage" i picked myself up a 1/4" fostex machine, my first r2r deck, for practically nothing.

i had a feeling tape wasnt going to die just like that.

maybe the demand for tape is going to increase now? i mean, there have got to be others like me who have just started learning r2r recording.

I hope it means that, Noah.

I, for one, am glad you are interested. It is a fun medium, enjoy learning it. I still enjoy learning to record to tape!

yeah, and $40 for your opinion. I suspect you're a crafty hypnotist.

:D :D :D :D

Great news. I figured that something like this would have to happen. Like all complex pursuits, I'll believe it when I actually see it, and know how much they'll be charging for a reel. But I'm certainly optimistic, and feel OK again about the future viability of our beloved analog open reel friends.

The 900 is doughy and dumb sounding. The 468, while the tonal balance is great, is noisy. The 911 should be the porage that just right for you bear. Hopefully, that's one of the formulations they'll make.
