Hey TapeOppers,
Does anyone know where to get some Owens-Corning 700 series rigid fiberglass or its equivalent in the Detroit metropolitan area?

Look under "Insulation" in the phone book, and contact a COMMERCIAL supplier, not a retail outlet.
This is not a UTFSF... what most people don't know is that 703/705 fiberglass is only available at commercial suppliers. They'll sell to individuals, but you're not going to find this stuff at Home Depot.

basic question here...how is it packaged? Does it come in panels, and if so, what size?

Panels are 2'x4', and you can either buy them individually or in boxes of 12, depending on the seller.

If you need some then definitely. I'll sell it cheap. I've got boxes of 1-in, 2-in and 3-in. I'll have to take an inventory but I've probably got one or two of each. I'm using them now to make little amp isolation igloos, but it's definitely not the best use of it.

Are there any good, easy to find alternatives to OC 703 panels that I can find somewhere in the 313...Detroit?
Thx,

You can also get 4'x8' panels of both OC and similar products.kayagum wrote:Panels are 2'x4', and you can either buy them individually or in boxes of 12, depending on the seller.

I think there is a place in ferndale called the insulation supply company.
Re: Rigid fiberglass / Owens-Corning 703 or 705
You are likely to find them sold by the case, meaning 12" thick (12 1" sheets, 6 2" sheets, 4 3" sheets... Got it?) 2'x4' is the most common size in a variety of thicknesses. The price for a case is pretty consistant regardless of the thickness because you are buying the same amount of fiberglass. It's just cut differently.
Try roofing supply companies if you don't find anything under "insulation".

If you contact Owens Corning, they will give you a list of vendors in your area that stock the item. I just went through all this, and it will save you some time to go directly to the source for the info.

And if you say you're an architect they'll suck your wang. They are nice to architects because we spec their materials and we can give them a lot of business.
They'll never ask for proof. Just picka local firm to say you are from. Call the sales rep for your region and he'll tell you where to get it and he'll probably say to use his name so the distributor will know he's doing his job.
That's how I got mine anyway.
