Ampex AM-10 mixer - mod for pres?

Post by Rodgre » Tue Jan 18, 2005 7:45 am

I was wondering if anyone had any info/experience regarding the Ampex AM-10 mixer.

I would love to convert it to six discrete preamps if I could.

Interesting I didnt know they made a solid state version..I thought it was a tube mixer..Do you want to DIY or pay someone to do it ?

there are schematics and specs here toward the bottom of this list though i think they are for the tube version :

you might try and contact John Goetz of Park Hill Studio because I think they have a moded am-10 according to their webpage..they list it under tube gear..

your best bet is to join the mailserver for ampex info :

Thanks. I'd like to DIY it. I'm just thinking that the outputs of the pre could be tapped off before the mixing stage, but I'm assuming that I would need to do some sort of transformer on the individual outs...

Yep, that would be the basic idea.

I'd ask over here and see if someone could recommend something more specific:

The output impedance of the preamp stages is relatively high, so you will need to add a buffer stage, such as an enitter follower at the elast.
