Fuck, i'd like to break the $27,000.00 mark!!!

I think, being single, if I were to make $35,000.00 a year, that would be fucking great, living here on the west coast in seattle. I'd be cool with that.

Huh? I'd live like a king on $60k. I guess if you've got kids...
If 60k per annum is 1/2 of a 2-income household no-one should complain. That's a good chunk of change. I know folks with kids who barely make that as a 2-income household, and they get by. That may not be possible everywhere in the country, but it's sure possible.
We've been making between 30G and 60G a year for five years, and have two kids. Nevertheless I own eight guitars and six synthesizers. This is upstate NY, though, and we never go out or take vacations.
yeah, i'm not sure how $60,000 isn't a decent income, even for two people.
It all depends - 30K certainly isn't in the San Francisco area. Even 60k is tight, unless you aren't building any long term savings, such as 401ks, Roths or other safety nets. My ex-roomate was making 35k, really frugal guy, and constantly struggling with credit card debt whenever his car broke, or he had to deal with something else.

Location is everything. I barely make any money at all, but Portland is pretty cheap (and I don't have kids, car payments, etc...)

If I were in NY, I'm sure I'd be singing a different tune.

Uli gets ALL the China pussy.
Uli is the only American looking guy, but all the rest have generic American names.. that's funny..

BTW, "symbols", "pedals", or "mikes", I don't care.. If it sounds like something 10 times the cost, I'll buy it. Why not? So what if my UERI says Behringer on it? I guess if Behringer made it it would be a EURI! Haha

we cant afford anything made in europe right now. Perhaps I took the wrong economics 101 class or something, but bush running the dollar into the ground is a brilliant fuck you to europe. We may not be the industrial giant we once were, but America sure as shit still has companies that sell shit and as the dollar deflates, it brings more foreign sales INTO this country so it actually is helping the economy. No you cant afford to buy some stuff in England right now, but some English people are having a fucking party converting their small handful of sterling into a large handful of dollars and spending it on american services even if that is just tourism. Economics is far too complicated to go blaming something as irrelevant as some puppet playing president for a few years.

DryCountry, do you have any songs online? If so, Id like to rip them off because that would be the most cost effective way for me to make money. Im sure you'll be flattered by my attempt at ripping you off and if you arent, dont worry, I have a stellar legal team to keep you busy filing legal forms while I make a profit on your work. Lucky for me, I have no ethics, and unlucky for you and your music publishing company there is a world of people looking to save a buck who will support assholes like me, with my steal your shit, not feel guilty ethics. I took a break from looking at porn on the internet to read some justification of "well they make copies of telecasters dont they" so when I steal your hard work dont go looking for sympathy online, the consensus is that people like me stealing from people like you is the cornerstone of modern capitalism. So, send me the link to your MP3's, its too expensive for me to rent studio time but I want to release a record. Im also to lazy to learn how to write a song myself and even though you might not be the best songwriter to walk thhe earth, Im sure you are "good enough" to rip off. Everyone will love me because Im putting some music out there and Im gonna sell a lot of it too since I'll be selling it so cheap. People might be bummed that thhe songs I stole from you were just "good enough" but you know, Im gonna offer them SUCH a good deal on them that they'll be excited to buy them and Ive arranged a deal with the big music marts in the midwest that will ONLY carry the songs I ripped off from you so people wont even have a choice when it comes to buying something some guy wrote or the thing that I just ripped off from you, how awesome am I with that angle?

all you artists here who are gonna complain about me ripping off your material can go fuck off you group of ninny sacred cows. Just be flattered and get over it.

Dave,

In all honestly, an absolutely BRILLIANT argument.

But I am not in defense of theft. All I said initally was that I hope they give BOSS and EH a run for their money. I should have just kept my mouth shut. But in terms of Boss being "flattered" by the attempt -- I guess I actually was right, as there seems to be some agreement between the two companies, strange as that might seem. And then there is the whole argument about modelling vs. the real deal. We are heading into strange waters with this one, but it would seem that for Behringer to model the sound of a Boss pedal in one of their pedals -- well, this would actually still be a Behringer product, even though they are crediting Boss for the original sound (and they ARE).

Kind of like if you were to model a band around material that my band had done. You collect royalties on the performances, but I collect royalties on the writing.

This could wind up like Kraftwerk playing different cities on the same night with different people -- the same band?

I know nothing about Behringer's past legal woes -- can someone fill me in or should I UTFSB?

I'm still in staunch defense of accessibility in music gear, as well as music in general so for the time being, I'll eat (some of) my words:

Dave, if you are interested, PM me -- I will put a CD in the mail to you this week. Some MP3's are on the site: http://www.drycounty.net/tlisten.html

such a huge topic, couldn't help but add $.02

behringer does make the FCB1010 which is unlike anything else available and is a live midi users dream...beyond that, yeah, they rip off technology and cheapen the process and quality.

however, wal-mart is great...you get the IDENTICAL product at a cheaper price. you are cutting down on the middle man...FANTASTIC!

behringer is different...it isn't the SAME product. different parts, different manufacturing, but the same idea. i live in nyc so counterfeit goods are all over the place. some people don't care, and they get what they pay for...a low quality product that doesn't last and those who are in the know, can spot a fake from a mile away. to those that don't care, it wouldn't matter if you had the real deal or nothing close to it. those are the same people who can't tell the difference between an old tape and a cd...it just isn't important...

behringer is actually good for some companies to a certain extent in that they provide a cheaper option for the unsure to test the waters. my first bass cost me probably $100, my current axe is quite a bit nicer.

my ears can hear the difference between a wide range of products and i can pick out many sounds based on listening alone. i've heard behringer next to line 6 and their is a DISTINCT difference in quality on the modelling used. but that's my ears...and my opinion.

there is a reason why classic and original are so often interchanged.

Little known trivia: The "middle man" these days is your Uncle Fred and Aunt Sally, and probably in the next couple years they're going to be broke enough to move in with you, Mr. Still-employed Lucky Dude.

The Mal-Wart business model depends on the distruction of the middle class.

If you are aware that Behringer is a thief & you continue to buy his products,
you consort with thieves.
