Re: Lawson L47
i belive they are just around the $2000 mark direct from Lawson.
actually, can you get them elsewhere? I think that direct is the only way to get one (but i could be wrong).

I have a Lawson L251. I've heard the L47 too. Both are great mics. I absolutely love my L251. I've never A/B'd it will a real 251 but I love it all the same. Great on vocals (!!!!), acoustic guitars, some guitar amps, drum room mic. Huge sound, tons of top. One of these days I'll get the L47 capsule (you can switch the capsules around). These mics are definitely worth checking out.

I have an L47-SH, the solid state version. I got it off of eBay for about $850. And it fucking rocks!!! Best acoustic guitar mic ever...but then, put it in front of anything and it will blow your cock, I mean mind!
BTW, one time Paul Allen bought so many Lawson mics for his studios worldwide that it shutdown production at the Lawson factory for a month while they filled his order. Then Lawson resumed making mics for the public, or so the story goes...

Re: Lawson L47
I owned 3 at one time tho I only own 2 now. I dont think they sound a lot like a 47, they dont have the same thickness and creamy shean. They are some of my favorite mics tho. they have a bright extended top end and a smooth sexy midrange. They are clean and clear enough to use where you would use a small diaphram (such as on an acoustic guitar) but have a sexier sound. They work on a lot of vocalists, especially when coupled with a slightly thick preamp like a manley. Really, you can put these mics just about anywhere they will fit and it will sound good.
