Pardon me PPA but I wanted to draw your attention to this related thread and see if it is in line with the offer that you have graciously put forward. I'm looking forward to the point in this mic quest when people such as myself who require all the details possible be presented so as to make rational decision will be able to read this without any thought in their head similar to, "okay how's this all going to work again, how can I get mine? I can't drive to______." and benefit from this unique web community.

wow...i posted in the beginning of the thread and look what it's become. damn.

It appears that many are intersted so what do we need to do to make a go of it? The PPA deal seems to make sense as long as the math works out.

Let's get the details already :-)

Ok, well there seems to be enough interest that I should go forth and figure this thing out. If you could give me a day or two to work on it I can get more solid info. Reality is, we are probably looking at 60 days or more. I think I read on an earlier post that they are quoting 20-30 days, add another 20-30 for the boat ride and the biggest drag, of all, we are just headed into the Chinese new year, which means NO work for a few weeks. If everyones jets are not doused from that, I will try to get solid numbers posted in the next few days. Air freight is a possibility and is not that much more per unit.

Could we really get a TapeOp logo on it? That would be so cool I'd pee my pants.

I know PPA wants to use their logo, understandably, but maybe we could get a "Tape-Op Edition" marking as well, a la mercenary.

That would be cool as well. By the way, thanks for your work on this, even if we're going with PPA. Way above and beyond, bro.

a tapeop gear co-op is a really good idea. whether or not we go with the PPA route, it'd be a really practical use of this messageboard's leverage to get better prices on gear that we'd buy anyway.....

I threw some pictures of the mic on my site so people could see what we're talking about. There are 4 shots of the mic (the hrm4) plus one of the nady product (hrm2) that shows the other packaging and one of the aluminum case. I haven't mentioned it before, but they include an xlr cable.

b3g, thanks for the kind words. I was just doing my part for the tape-op community as one of the many resident cheap-bastard gearsluts. If PPA wants to do the legwork for a marginal markup and some good will, I'd be thrilled. But I doubt they'd be doing it if we hadn't figured it out here first.

Which makes me think that a gear co-op may be a good idea. The problem would be finding products that we can get decent savings on at relatively low volumes that enough people here would be interested in and could afford. I doubt we'd get enough of a discount on a Royer 121 that we could move even 20 units, but who knows? My guess is any electronics produced in the U.S. is already operating on a pretty thin margin.
