As someone who's involved in importing and exporting expensive items on a regular basis, I'd suggest you all jump on PPA's offer before they think about it too long and change their minds. I guarantee whomever undertakes this project on their own is in for a bit of a shock when they're actually confronted with all that packing and shipping.
And as for this comment:
At this point, there's no real alternative in the US, so we're not taking anything away from American workers.
has anybody asked Dave Royer what he'd sell R121s for in quantities of 100?

I'd assume about ten times as much.....
When in doubt, try it anyway... it just might work.

The "TOMB" coop I like that.
you think Royer would sell 121's for a couple hundred each?
doubt it but it's worth asking I suppose

I assume that the mics are unlabeled OEM style. How about branding them with "Tape Op Coop" or something?
Still in for two, LA pickup.
What? No Gravy???

seems to me that there needs to be 3 main hubs...say NYC, KC, and SF....after all the orders are collected... divide the orders via zip code and distribute the mics accordingly....whoever makes the buy should receive an extra bonus of $5-$10 per mic to pay for their time and the extra$$$ to ship product to the other 2 distributors....customers paypal the distro person a flat shipping fee plus a buck or two for the effort, that way no one is doing a bunch of work for free and everyone gets to ribbon
am I making sense?
basically....you paypal the main distro(S.F)) the $140 plus the extra $5-$10 bucks per mic
order to china is then made
Shipped to main distro (SF?)
Main distro(SF?) divides and ships mics to the other 2 distros(KC and NYC)
distros are paypalled the flat shipping fee that includes a $1 or $2 extra for the effort
the product is sent
i dropped out of business school....... cant you tell

If we go for PPA's offer (sounds good to me), his post says that they will probably logo them. Maybe we can get them to not logo the Tape Op batch? Either way, not a deal breaker for me...

Hmmmm, I think that is pretty much what we offered to do, less the shipping confusion.

Yeah, I'm down with PPA for 2. Darjama, thanks a lot for getting things started though. No offense to your plan at all, it sounds good.
But PPA already has distrubution channels in place and it makes sense to go the no hassle route for virtually no extra cost. And now we're supporting America too!
By the way, silver grille, and no attached cable.
Mike

I just dropped in to see if there was any info here on this mic...Wow! I wasn't expecting 10 pages and a super price break as well. I'm in for at least one-maybe two depending on the price. Thanks Garth!
By the way-I couldn't find any mention of this mic on the Pacific Pro Audio website. Am I just missing it?

PPA sounds like the way to go. They're trustworthy, and it'll save us a lot of hassle.
