What is this sound? That song haunts me constantly it's so kick ass.

And I'm a guitarist.

I believe Kill the Moonlight was recorded at Jim Eno's studio in Austin.

And from memory that sounds a lot like a Wurlitzer electric piano to me.

Pretty great sound nonetheless.

It is the wurlitzer patch from the e-mu vintage keys module.

friendlybunny,
I'm not questioning you by any means, just curious how you know that?

I love that song.

because there is space for it. Spoon is great at keeping their arrangements rythum guitar free.

for me, spoon and the shins (both of which i found out about via tapeop)
albums' have such great air. it doesn't hurt that these bands write really
good songs, but it's a double-bonus that that the recordings hit the mark.

I guess that just goes to show how much more room you have to play with when you limit the distorted guitars.

I wish I knew Britt.

When is their new album coming out??? I can't wait any longer. I need it NOW! That band is the shit. They have their own studio and do their own recordings. They inspired me to buy my own gear and record my own band. As far as the no rythm guitar thing, I absolutely love the simplicity and the space in thier recordings. Less is more.
I know enough to know that I don't know what I am doing.

that LP5 video is awesome.

SM7 on vocals. looks like a different space (or renovated) since the small stakes video.
