Headphones Question.

Post by AASteveo » Wed Feb 02, 2005 2:42 am

I have headphones that cover my entire ear. They're not the best, but I think they're good. Anyways, I often wear them for hours at a time while listening to music or recording or whatever. And afterwards my ears feel irritated. Is this anything serious, or just a nuisance?

I'd ask a doctor. They could be causing skin irritation at the least or an infection at the worst.

Do you mean your skin hurts on the ear, or the whole ear hurts(sorta inside the ear bones) this happens to me, I think they could be too tight?? I recently got some Direct Sound Extreme Isolation headphones, which seem to take care of either problem. They isolate you and reduced outside sound so much that you don't have to have the volume as loud, and they fit around the ear, so they don't press on your ears.

I like them, this could fix your problem possibly.

It's probably just a result of physical ear fatigue. That happens to me now and then, and it not anything that develops into much more than just an achy soreness. Actually, it doesn't actually get that bad.

Yeah, I don't think it's anything serious. They just feel weird for a while after. I usually have them on a lot cuz my roommate and I have clashing music tastes. I should probly just take a break every once in a while.

its probably just the cartiladge in your ear being pressed up against your head that feels weird....other than being annoying i cant imagine it really affects anything.

that happens to me too, except ive got stretched ears with titanium plugs...so i get indentations on my head.....ouch :(

I always had headphones irritate my ears, and I am wearing a pair now as I type. I think perhaps with extreme use it may cause probs. I had a pre cancer removed from one of my ears, and the doc told me a lot of farmers have the same thing, because they spend a lot of time in the sun, and the skin on ears is very thin and very succeptable to that kind of disease. I have often wondered whether it was not my excessive use of headphones that caused it. I wouldn't worry a lot about it, but I would try to find phones that cover the whole ear if they are available. Maybe it would also be a good idea to put something like Sayman Salve on the irritated place when it happens, just to keep the area from drying out.
