Man, I'm glad to see people agree on this subject. Wonder how many folks are getting in on this deal after all that excitement last week..

Am I crazy to order a half dozen?

I guess I'll find out.

But I figure that when they are ribbons for the price of SM-58s, and I can place four into regular use with two spares, and use them in absurd places where I'd be afraid to place the AEAs or my vintage RCAs - why not. Hell, when I record big band, I can put the whole sax section on individual ribbons!?!?

And for what it's worth, I'd like to see a simple logo like this:

And naturally that would stand for "Cheap Ass Ribbons".
Unless we later want to resell them and then they are just CAR mics - an obvious Chinese rip-off.

You're not crazy, at least not for ordering the mics. I hope you have the preamps to power the mics though. I think you need around 75 db of gain. My Syteks have 70 db and they either have to run all of the way up or (my preference) is to daisy chain two channels.

As for the name:
How about the GoCart? Seems fitting.
Garth Orders Cheap Ass Ribbons at TapeOp

Or maybe the GREAT mic?
Garth Ribbon Extravaganza At TapeOp

Actually, I really think the brand of mic should be GARTH and the model should be CAR, (the Garth CAR). I really think Garth's name should somehoe be on or in someway in the name of the mic.......unless he objects, in which case we better cancel our orders!

BTW, someone posted clips of the T.bone ribbon, which is this exact same mic and it sounded fabulous, killing the Oktava IMO.
The Madguitrst has left the building.

I haven't even decided to order yet( I'm strapped for cash) but I vote for "no logo". No really, I think the logo should be "no logo". That's just me and I'm stupid. -AE

1531 hits on the thread. I gotta believe people are ordering and just don't care to comment further. Hope Garth gets the kind of numbers he needs.

This is TapeOp dammit. Make your own logo. DIY 4eva!

I'm going to go the generic product route and stencil MICROPHONE on mine.

I'm for no logo as well. so tired of logos.

Some one did make a good point to the contrary though, sorry I dont remember who or which friggin thread. the point was that if these suck or we get bored with them, selling them will be much easier with some sort of logo that would point back to this buy.

I hope they're wrong.

will

Actually, I'm hoping that if it comes time to resell them on eBay that there is nothing to link them back to this purchase. Then they would go for the market price about where the Nady mics are. I lean towards the notion that no logo might be harder on the resale, while something that seems more commercial might appeal to folks more. Or perhaps I'm mistaken, and a no logo piece build the mystery so people bid it up thinking it might be some old forgotten RCA model.
On the other hand, giving it some kind of name does make it easier to refer to when asking an assistant to grab the mic from the locker.

Only if you're a dickhead when you sell it and not disclose what it actually is. Whenever I sell anything, I give all relevant info I have on it, positive or negative. Anything else is dishonest, IMO.
