Awesome news -- can't wait to get mine. Might even keep both of 'em now! Just have to sell a few body organs or something.

Out of curiosity, how many orders did you end up taking, Garth?

HRM-2 Has A Superior Grille

HRM-2 vs HRM-4

Garth and others...

This request may have gotten lost in the middle of thousands of posts but I strongly urge you to order the HRM-2 style head grille if possible and not the simpler cylindrical HRM-4 style.

The 3 dimensional taper of the HRM-2 grille will reduce internal standing waves to provide a flatter more accurate and more transparent high end.

Head grille design is a particular research interest of mine - do a search in Rec Pro Audio via Google groups for "Microphone Head Grille Effects" or "Oktava ML-52-02 Resonance analysis and mod" to see what I've published.

HRM-2 = better grille / better sound. HRM-4 = detachable cable / no sonic difference.

best regards as always, MJ

I'm with this guy. He sounds smart.

HRM-2! HRM-2!

I believe on the "I'm in and I can pay thread", there were MANY people who preferred the HRM-2, just because we know what it sounds like.

My vote's for the HRM-2. Sounding better is more important than being the "more expensive" version.

Unless it's possible to have the HRM-4 with the HRM-2 grille, than I'd go with that.

HRM-2 as well, given the rationale of other posters.

another hrm2 vote. Getting this one shouldn't keep us from getting the aluminum cases, correct? From my discussions with the plant, the hrm2 and hrm4 were the same price and the case was available with both.

Part of the reason I ordered was because it was the HRM 2. I was also in favor of the cable coming out of the body, like on vintage mics.

cheers,

Although I did not vote for the HRM2, I think I should state that I'm cool with majority rule, however it turns out.

don't care, just glad my order for 4 mic's are in....I'll be able to track a whole band!!!!!!
I've got the NADY with the round grill and it works fine, nothing like the Octava ML52....much better, having the detachable cable is cool, its a bitch with the NADY. I'll go with the flow on this one, the science sounds plausable, but the NADY sounds fine so I dunno

I'm all for the -2 version. It's not like it would be hard to remove the attached cord and replace it with a pigtail or something.

The HRM2 grill with the HRM4 body, would be my vote. Best of both.

I still say the attached cable is nothing to wimp out about. Just trim it to four inches and put a new connector on it. It's no biggie- the coles are like that too. Plus you take the surplus you cut off and make new mic cables with them. But whatever happens is fine with me.

An undesirable cable is easier to deal with than an undesirable head grille.

If it's possible I'd like to see them made up with the HRM 2 grill and detatchable cable. The attached cable on my Nady's is a pain...
I think the Nady's sound fine however I have noticed it doesn't have a real "airy" top end so if the angled grill produces even better sound , I'm all for it. :D
