Pacific Pro Audio Ribbon Mic SCARE

Post by bspro » Wed Feb 02, 2005 2:04 pm

Hey All,

I, like 150+ of you, am extremely anxious to get a hold of a good deal on a quality pair of ribbons. However, I just got an email from several recordists who believe that this entire deal is a SCAM. Creating some doubt in my mind and the mind of others.

The gist of the email is that Garth (who legitimately works at PPA) initially planned to pull this off, but for whatever reason decided that it wasn't going to work. At that juncture, somebody else (who the heck, I don't know), jumped in and is making promises that he is not set up to meet.

Could we get some sort of verification from Tape Op, on the legitimacy of this thing? Larry...we need you!

If you're worried, why don't you just call PPA?

I actually talked to Garth today when i called asking about paying with a credit card. He did not mention anything fishy. The dude is there and you can call him if you think this is whack.

I hope it's not.

I agree. This is sooo much better than cable. I should have been on these messageboards years ago. . .

I suggest you call PPA and directly and speak to Garth if you have any questions.

dear god, I promised I'd never type this, but UTFSF!

Garth is going through with it, there's a thread below. The number to call to order with credit card is the same as the one on the Pacific Pro Audio website. You can call and talk to him if you like.

There is another member of the board trying to rally people around a slightly different offer (no case, reduced price, etc...), but consensus seems to be to use Pacific Pro Audio.

Anyone spreading this type of rumour is either foolish, viscious, or visciously foolish.

No offense, but I get 10-20 emails a day from Doctors, Lawyers and Royalty, all offering to split amazing fortunes with them, if I'll help them get it out of the country.

May I suggest that you name your sources, or verify your sources, or keep your FUD to yourself? "Mind of yourself and others"?

I apoligize if this is not the case, but you carefully crafted a letter that comes of like it's only purpose is to start shit without putting forward any reason for it.

That, coupled with the avatar really tickled me. How do you get several recordists to write one e-mail by the way? I'm confused by this whole ribbon thing, it's got pretty complex, i just want to buy a pair and see how they sound, that's all. I'll go with the majority, seems the simplest way for this, especially with all the wierdness and complexity surrounding this deal right now.

come on.

i just spoke with Colleen at PPA. Everything is still a go. I didn't speak to Garth directly, but they answered the phone PPA and she called me back after talking to Garth.

This is ridiculous.
