I'm tellin' ya!!! Not sure how similar a V57m is.. I have one, I've said it a thousand times on here, I love using it under snares. It makes the snare sound so natural, and picks up the nice attack of the beater on the kick.

Harvey, I just meant reviewed on this board, in our little mic review section. I didn't mean in the real world!Harvey Gerst wrote:I did a pretty widely quoted review of the MXL V67G back in January of 2001.dracon wrote:So, I'm surprised. No one else has an opinion one way or another about this mic? Wow! I agree with inverseroom I can't believe that this mic has not been reviewed previously.
Re: MXL V67G Review
the only thing that boggles me about MXL is that they have a million differnt models, and only a handful are on their website, which they just updated recently.NeglectedFred wrote:I'm tellin' ya!!! My V67 green/gold was nicknamed "Homer Simpson" by my songwriting partner...

I have one of these (not the green and gold t hank god) that came from MARS music (RIP) way back when. I like it and agree with everything said. However, I have gotten some good sounds out of it as a drum room mic.
Never had any luck with micing guitar cabs, but have had some hits and misses on acoustics.
Pretty good for a lot of voices. I honestly think mine has lost "something" over the years. Maybe my ears have just changed.

I have a black V67 with the Mogami wiring and sometimes it's just the ticket on certain vocalists. Pretty good in 'most any application where a condenser is useful.

Came with a generic 20' XLR, the shock mount, and the ring mount. With shipping it came to $111 or something like that. The shock mount alone would set you back $20-$30.

Re: MXL V67G Review
I have had good results with the v67 under the snare-as a matter of fact, I got a decent drum sound for a rockabilly band recently with just the v67 under the snare and a at4033 out in front of the kit.NeglectedFred wrote:I'm tellin' ya!!! Re: MXL V67G Review
My local studio owner who recorded our last record gave credibility to the MXL line for me. On that record, we decided to use one track recorded by me in my basement since we just could not re-capture the vibe. I used an Akai harddisk recorder, some Presonus mic pres and various relatively inexpensive mics, but it sounded great and he was able to make it sound very close to the rest of the tracks.Madguitrst wrote:Actually, I think Harvey single handedly gave credibility to the Marshall line, not to mention the RNC, Behringer ECM8000, etc.
When he first heard it, he asked, "What did you use for overheads?" I said the Crown CM-700s. He said, "Yeah... that's why there's that upper-midrange thing going on. Here... you should try these..." and he gave me a pair of MXL 603s to play with for a month. And they blew me away. I quickly sold my Crowns and bought a pair of the MXLs and came out with cash to spare.
He has been raving about the tube mic (the V69?) and I also picked up three 2001s on his recommendation. This coming from a guy that has Coles, vintage AKG C12s, Neumann's, Royers, AEAs, and everything else you can imagine at his disposal.

Hmmm, what's the difference with the cm-700s and the mxl603s? I like my cm-700s for overheads alot.b3groover wrote:When he first heard it, he asked, "What did you use for overheads?" Well, that leads to a question:b3groover wrote:My local studio owner who recorded our last record gave credibility to the MXL line for me.Madguitrst wrote:Actually, I think Harvey single handedly gave credibility to the Marshall line, not to mention the RNC, Behringer ECM8000, etc.
Who turned your local studio owner on to the MXL line?
Re: MXL V67G Review
They have a strange upper mid-rangey thing going on. He was able to EQ it out without too much trouble but the 603s are much more natural. It could be a combination of the mic preamp and the mics, though. I was using a Presonus M80. If they sound good to you, great!darjama wrote:Hmmm, what's the difference with the cm-700s and the mxl603s? As for who turned him on to the MXL line, I don't know. That's a good question and I'll ask him next time I see him.
Re: MXL V67G Review
harvey's review got me to buy my v67g. ($70 on ebay) I have a voice as deep as (insert offensive creotism here). I love it. the first mic under $500 bucks that doesn't make my voice turn into mud. Just fine on most other things too - good repeatable results on glock, low side of the piano, electric guitar, floor tom... I'll have to try that bottom snare placement. my snare drum needs all the help it can get.
thanks harvey.
