keyboard recording tips?????

Post by the snake viper » Fri Feb 04, 2005 7:13 pm

hi my band just recorded 6 songs, we are having a problem with the keyboard being really dry and airy sounding??? we D.I. it and miced the bass amp we play with it

live it punches through and sounds huge and fat and warm but recording its really thin
any tips or ideas to buff it up??
it is a digital keyboard and i know how its hated compared to analog but it sounds great in a live situation and i am curious if adding some light distortion or anything that would just make it a phatter sound
thanks
zak

move the mic back and get some of the room too? If it sounds fat live, and lame close-miked, then this may help.

Run the track back out to the amp and re-mic/re-track it once you have a mic'd sound you dig.

It might have to do with your recording chain. You don't need state of the art but pretty good equipment and some knowledge of technique can do wonders.

No one here knows what you have already or what you want to hear so it's hard to make suggestions.
