This guy on ebay claims to own some dbx calibration equipment for calibrating the 118 so it is just like the 160. Think it's just a crock?

Re: DBX 118 Question
Even if it's true, I'm not paying $150 plus shipping... not now, at least...

Re: DBX 118 Question
In my opinion, a calibration service _only_ of a 118 (119 etc) is not worth the money and will not "produce the same results as the 160 for a lot less money." (quotes from ebay page)
I worked for David Blackmer (dbx founder) from '80 to 1993 and know a little about his VCAs, RMSs and the circuits they found their way into. Converting a 118 into a 160 is a topology change, not a calibration tweak.
Anyone considering this service would be better off spending the money to recap the electrolytics or just enjoy it as a flavor-of-the-month compressor.
by the way, its somewhat disengenuous to suggest that dbx's text equipment was not up to snuff and better results can now be achieved with digital test equipment.
