Isn't it time we gave the gear/equipment questions its own forum? Leave the General Recording to the actual act of recording?

Nah, gear and technique are linked. Can you really ask a technique question without being at all concerned about gear? Different gear requires different techniques (You might put a sm57 right up to the rim of your snare, but not a studio projects C1) .. and certain techniques require gear, perhaps, that you might not have.

I'm thinking more about "which gear should I buy for $x".

Keep it simple. Leave it as it is.

Personally, I wish at they were more consolidated or at least put general, computers, and music/mp3s together. I would rather sift myself than have to look at each forum separately. I guess it'd get messy, but I can deal. I'd also be more inclined to listen to people's stuff. I tend to forget about the other forums.

I just wish I could look at more than 50 topics.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Who cares. If you don't like a topic don't look at it.

The more forums that you have, the less each gets traffic, and the less replies each message gets.

I think TapeOp's got just about the right amount. More or less would start to suck.

I still want the "Recording techniques/MP3" forum.
A place to post MP3 exaples of techniques we're using.
Or discuss problems we're having with an audio clip included.
With no "check out my awesome emo band" threads.
I'm probably the only one interested in this.

The idea's great! Differences between mic positions, etc., would be cool. But, it would have to be .wav files to be able to tell what was going on with any value in the experience - mp3's sound like crap.

Just my opinion.

plus would you host them yourself or expect tapeop to host them? That may be a lot to ask. Hosting this bad boy has got to be expensive as it is.
