LOUD 11-13hz generator?
well, apprantly 11hz makes you shit and 13hz makes your eyeballs vibrate, resulting in hallucinations.
whats the cheapest way to make a big ass sound system that will blast this as far as possible? so sound generator to poweramps to what kind of speakers? and it is possible to make it directional at ALL?
trust me, this is for a good cause.
thanks!

Well, you might want to wait until next Wednesday, when "Mythbusters" covers that topic.... unless you got the early scoop???

Re: LOUD 11-13hz generator?
depends on what you mean by cheap...
get a huge powered sub, maybe 15 or 18 inches--at least 750 watts. plug a computer output into the sub. generate a couple sine waves at -6dBfs, one at 11hz, one at 13hz. then turn the sub up kinda loud, hit play on the sine waves, and watch incredulously as no one shits their pants or hallucinates, but they all become uncomfortable from the SPLs and leave.

Re: LOUD 11-13hz generator?
bump
ill be more specific.
what can i use to generate a <20hz tone? any synth modules that do this? anything i can build?
what poweramps go that low effectively?
what kind of size speaker/cab assembly should i be looking at?
help me out here kids, 13hz could be the new dope (joke)

Re: LOUD 11-13hz generator?
generating 11-13 hz is simple.
get a test oscillator/function generator made for lab work.
most go down to at least 0.1 hz.
check the 'bay.
good luck finding a speaker!

Your problem lies in finding a speaker that will actually be able to conduct sub-sonic frequencies like this. You may well be able to find an amplifier whose AC capacity is 0hz on up, but a speaker is another story altogether.

Re: LOUD 11-13hz generator?
there is no inexpensive speaker that will do it..a computer and other common digital devices will not be able to generate frequencies below the nyquist filters..or 20Hz

what do you mean? d low frequencies have trouble conducting to a speaker? i dont see why... can you explain?puffpastry wrote:Your problem lies in finding a speaker that will actually be able to conduct sub-sonic frequencies like this. Re: LOUD 11-13hz generator?
speakers are built to transduce audible frequencies, so they rarely go lower than 18 Hz.
AFAIK, speaker design gets more and more complicated as the frequency falls.
it's hard to reproduce long-wavelength (low-frequency) signals using paper/mylar cones and magnets.
11 Hz represents a lot of cone excursion, especially at high volumes.
I'm sure you can do it, but it'd be expensive.

if you know of a design, i have very resourceful freindskrylenko wrote: it's hard to reproduce long-wavelength (low-frequency) signals using paper/mylar cones and magnets.

Re: LOUD 11-13hz generator?
The HP 204C sine wave oscillator covers 5 Hz - 1.2 MHz. It produces a very pure sine wave - no overtones. I've seen them on eBay for about $20. I have a set of 3 as part of my performance rig. Covering low low frequencies in a rock club can have strange effects - one time a shower of plaster particles started raining from the ceiling. I haven't seen anybody affected adversely by the 'brown note' though. But 20 Hz is about the lowest audible freq. I've been able to produce at a venue.
