moxy / pet sounds

Post by bellulah » Wed Feb 09, 2005 5:12 am

i just had a friend describe the album "pet sounds" to me in the most refreshing way, and i have never heard it described better.

anyone know that soda called "moxy?" apprently you can't come by it easily, and i've only had it once. but in PA you can get it fairly easy, i gues... but at any rate, it has an odd flavour that takes time to warm up to. and it's complex. and... i dunno, can't put my finger on it but anyone who has tried it knows about where i'm coming from.

so my friend was like "ah... 'pet sounds.' that record is like moxy. you know, that soda? because, like, you try it once and you're like 'dude - this sucks. but... i mean, i could try it again. it was interesting.' and then later you're like 'hey - i wanna try that moxy again. it wasn't too bad.' and you try it a couple more times and then suddenly you're like 'damn damn damn i love moxy. it's the best stuff ever.' and 'pet sounds' is like that."

so i thought that was a pretty great way to put it so i wanted to share.

first when i read this i was thinking of the expression "moxy" from the 20's-30's...meaning "balls" or "guts"

cool description though

One listen to the track 'You Still Believe in Me' many years ago was all it took for me. That album is really special.

Word. I Pretty much loved every song I have heard from it since i was 4 and can remember hearing music.

Did that sentence make sense? God only Knows.

that entire album has a really haunting quality, i think...

for me, i get the feeling of an aural/emotional aftertaste, a sense of place, an afterimage of things/places/people/situations past and i'm not referring to feeling nostalgic.

very few albums do that for me.

i just read what i typed and i sound plotzed.

sadly, i'm typing this at my office.
